A May Day - Vista, CA, USA

A May Day, a sculpture by Melissa Ralston, was a part of the third exhibit of Vista's public art display, Kites Over Vista.  It was on display in downtown Vista from 2010 to 2011.  It remains on permanent display.

Located at the corner of East Broadway and South Indiana Avenue.

"Flamingo" House - Escondido, CA, USA

This post-war modern ranch style house was built in 1948.  It is situated within the Old Escondido Historic District.  The story, as I understand it, is that the homeowners applied to the Historic District for approval to use the paint colors of turquoise and pink.  The Historic District approved as those colors were appropriate to the time period as interior colors.  Surprise.

Morris-Brown Bungalow - Escondido, CA, USA

This late Craftsman style California bungalow was built in 1920.  The clapboard siding is in a pattern of two narrow panels to one wide panel.  The first known occupant was Charles O. Morris in 1923.  He and his brother James E. were homebuilders and owned this lot and several others on both sides of the street.  Carrie and William Brown were the occupants in 1924.

Located at 118 West 10th Avenue in the Old Escondido Historic District.  This street was originally called Nevada Street and the residence was originally numbered 120.

Reflections on Downtown - Escondido, CA, USA

Reflections on Downtown is a 1990 cast bronze sculpture by artist T. J. Dixon.  It depects a mother with a child on her lap, sitting on a bench.  They are both reaching into the mother's purse, perhaps for bus fare.

Located on Grand Avenue, just west of Broadway Street, on the northwest corner in the heart of downtown Escondido.

McCallum Residence - Oceanside, CA, USA

This Craftsman style bungalow was the home of Alphonso Angus McCallum, his wife Elizabeth and their son Rea/Ray.  Alphonso McCallum was a photographer and operated a studio and gallery in Oceanside after he and his wife settled there about 1910.  Many of his photos were used to promote Oceanside as postcards.  He was also a building carpenter and is thought to have built this house himself circa 1921.

Moonlight Beach Mural - Encinitas, CA, USA

Two murals by local marine artist Micaiah Hardison adorn the exterior wall of the Moonlight Beach 7-Eleven convenience store in Encinitas.  The larger of the two depicts Moonlight State Beach, several blocks to the west.

Located at 105 West D Street, at the intersection of D Street and South Coast Highway.  The murals are on the east wall facing South Coast Highway.

St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church - Oceanside, CA, USA

This Spanish Revival style church building, designed by Los Angeles architect Emmet G. Martin, was built in 1927.  It replaced a small wooden parish built in 1896 at the same location.  St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Parish operates under the administration of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego.

Located at 609 Pier View Way (formerly Third Street), on the southwest corner of Pier View Way and North Ditmar Street.

Delpy's, Vista Mercantile, Beattie and Travis Mural - Vista, CA, USA

This mural representing Vista's Agricultural History 1890's to 1950's was painted by Charles H. "Chuck" Rouse in 2001.  It covers the north wall of the Hanes Building in downtown Vista.
