Pier Mural - Oceanside, CA, USA

This mural, depicting the Oceanside Pier, was painted by artist Mark McBee in 1998.

Located on the north exterior wall of 604 North Coast Highway (formerly North Hill Street), currently the location of Veneto's Italian Restaurant.

El Corral Pottery - Carlsbad, CA, USA

El Corral Pottery has been in business at this location for decades.  They specialize in fountains, pottery and dinnerware and always have a selection of Fiestaware on hand.  I remember going here with my parents in the 1950s and it appears pretty much unchanged since then.

Located at 3040 Carlsbad Boulevard.

Beach Scene Mural - Carlsbad, CA, USA

This mural of a beach scene was painted by artist Shawn David Baker in 2012 and is located on the south exterior wall of Royal Palms Spirits, aka "Pig Liquor."

Located at 305 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Surfing Pig Mural - Carlsbad, CA, USA

This mural of a surfing pig wearing a crown was painted by Aaron Kimball in 2013.  It is located on the north exterior wall of Royal Palms Spirits, called  "Pig Liquor" by locals because of a pig statue that used to be at the door and a neon pig sign in the window.

Carlsbad Pipelines Mural - Carlsbad, CA, USA

The Carlsbad Pipelines mural is located on the south exterior wall of the surf shop of the same name.

Located at 2975 Carlsbad Boulevard.

O'side Cafe - Oceanside, CA, USA

This Spanish Revival style building, originally a residence, has most recently been the location of the O'side Cafe.  In recent years it has housed a variety of businesses including a Psychic, a handmade paper shop, and several different restaurants.  As the O'side Cafe the exterior was colorfully painted to resemble a sunrise or sunset.
As of this date the mural is gone.  The exterior of the building has been painted a shade of brown and a banner advertises the Grand Opening of a coffee shop.

Located at 624 South Coast Highway.

Seascape Mural - Oceanside, CA, USA

This seascape mural is located on the north exterior wall of the former Vaughan's Market.  Vaughan's Market was a family-owned market that was in business at this location for over 50 years.

The mural is signed "Painted By Skull 08' 09'."

Located at 308 South Coast Highway (formerly South Hill Street), on the southeast corner of South Coast Highway and Michigan Avenue.  The mural faces Michigan Avenue.

Charles Ledgerwood Residence and Seed Store - Carlsbad, CA, USA

This Spanish Revival style house is situated on a bluff facing the Pacific Ocean.  It was the home of Charles B. Ledgerwood, Carlsbad's famous "seed man."  He operated a seed store here for decades out of a room at the front of the house.

This plaque is located in the retaining wall at the front corner of the property.

Charles Ledgerwood came to Carlsbad in 1933 and built his home on this site.  His home was a store from which he dispensed seeds and gardening wisdom for 67 years.  He served this community on the Board of Directors of the Sanitation District; on the City Planning Commission; on the City Council from 1956-58; and was Carlsbad's 7th Mayor from 1958-60.  Charles Ledgerwood was loved and respected for his community service, integrity, and caring for others."

I have a memory of visiting this seed store once with my parents, probably about the time Mr. Ledgerwood was Carlsbad's Mayor.  My mother purchased seeds from him and sought his advice on garden pest control.

Moonlight Beach Mural - Encinitas, CA, USA

Two murals by local marine artist Micaiah Hardison adorn the exterior wall of the Moonlight Beach 7-Eleven convenience store in Encinitas.  The larger of the two depicts Moonlight State Beach, several blocks to the west.

Located at 105 West D Street, at the intersection of D Street and South Coast Highway.  The murals are on the east wall facing South Coast Highway.

Breakers Mural - Oceanside, CA, USA

This mural of breaking waves, painted by Aggy, covers the north wall of Pacific Coast Cycles.  Near the southern end of town, Pacific Coast Cycles is a bicycle sales, accessories, rental and repair business.

Located at 2003 South Coast Highway, on the southwest corner of South Coast Highway and Vista Way.

Postcards from Oceanside - Oceanside, CA, USA

Postcards from Oceanside, a 2002 mural by artists Sue Pruett and Rhonda Ruggieri, features postcard scenes of Oceanside attractions.  It is painted across the rear of the Sunshine Brooks Theatre in downtown Oceanside.

Located in the alley behind 217 North Coast Highway, adjacent to Civic Center Drive.

Rock Residence - Oceanside, CA, USA

Built as a private residence circa 1926, this Spanish Eclectic style bungalow presently houses Mission Urgent Care Family Practice.

Old St. Michael's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church - Carlsbad, CA, USA

Built in 1894 and originally located at Lincoln Street and Oak Street, the gothic-style church was once the only church in Carlsbad and is one of the four oldest buildings in the village.  It was moved to it's present location in January of 1959 where it serves as the Chapel on the grounds of the present St. Michael's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church.

Oceanside Pier at Sunset - Oceanside, CA, USA

Commissioned by North County Printers and Bryant and Dwyer Sign Service to celebrate their 50th year in business, this 800 square foot mural depicting the Oceanside Pier at sunset was painted by artist Chris Head.  Completed in seven days, just prior to 4th of July weekend in 2010, this mural covers the formerly bare south wall of Johnson's Sporting Goods along Mission Avenue in the heart of downtown.

Located at 202 N. Coast Highway on the NE corner of N. Coast Highway and Mission Avenue.

Addendum September 16, 2015:  This mural was destroyed in September 2015 when the building was being remodeled for the relocation of Swami's Café.

Dolphin Hotel - Oceanside, CA, USA

Built for Julius E. Keisker, the 26 room hotel opened for business in June 1927 as the Keisker Hotel.  It was purchased by Robert and Jessie DeWitt in the mid-1930s and the name changed to the DeWitt Hotel.  Since the early 1950s the name has been the Dolphin Hotel.  It has been in continuous operation and is presently a 25 room economy hotel.

Located at 133 South Coast Highway, on the NW corner of South Coast Highway (S. Hill St.) and Topeka.
